Alan Cumming perpetuates myth of ‘free health care’

You could say Alan Cumming is a fan of President Barack Obama; so much so, in fact, that the Scottish-born actor credits Obama’s vision for the country as the inspiration for his becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2008. So we’ll assume Cumming is referring to Obamacare when he mentions the promise of “free health” for America.

The tribute to Great Britain’s National Health Service at the Olympic opening ceremony Friday night inspired many to praise socialized medicine this weekend.

Something must be getting lost in translation here. America is still trying to decide if Obamacare is a tax or a penalty on free riders. Did someone else say health care in the United Kingdom is free?

NHS,get in! What seperates us from them.Civilised nations have free health care, not determined by the wallet.1.4 million strong! #nhs

Michael Moore was proud of Brits for their protest to preserve a system they love.

The current conservative gov't in Britain though loves the American way of health care & r trying to undo their NHS. Last nite was protest.

Actor John Barrowman of “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood” fame also urged Americans to embrace NHS-style health care. Although Barrowman did stop short of calling socialized medicine “free,” he  couldn’t resist suggesting that its opponents somehow think only some “deserve” care.

#NHS see it works USA…. everyone deserves healthcare. jb

Apparently there’s a great deal of British pride invested in not letting poor people die like Americans do.

Dear America, you're probably watching and thinking WTF but over here we're proud that no one should ever die for being poor. #Olympics #NHS

Don’t worry: Brits are willing to team up to bring us a trans-Atlantic health care system. Don’t be scared!

Health care justice is an international cause. U.S. should partner with our colleagues in England and support their #NHS. #Singlepayer
