Derek Jeter, Gulfstream libs wring hands at Davos; Twitter mocks ‘bold ideas’

Ah, the yearly gathering of Gulfstream progressives! The World Economic Forum is going on in Davos, Switzerland.

I think I would enjoy covering Davos, and could get some good material from there.

— Timothy P Carney (@TPCarney) January 23, 2013

Yes. Because, hilarious. There is much laughter to be had. Take this year’s theme:

The theme of this year’s Davos is “resilient dynamism.” Anybody know what that means?

— Blake Hounshell (@blakehounshell) January 23, 2013

RT @jacobwe: Theme of this year’s Davos: Trying to figure out what “resilient dynamism” is supposed to mean. / “Don’t blame us” ?

— davidfrum (@davidfrum) January 23, 2013

They have no clue themselves. It just sounds fancy pants and “enlightened,” and isn’t that what really matters? Some smug self-pats on the back for being oh-so-brilliant?

Those who live in the real world prefer some awesome mockery as medicine. Twitter users discuss Davos with their signature snark.

Will Davos decide to make Steve Gutenberg a star again?

— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahNRO) January 23, 2013

Ah Davos, where elite economists drone all day long on gloom while sipping champagne and collecting huge speaking fees $$

— Robert Passarella (@robpas) January 23, 2013

Shorter Davos: “OMG there are hungry, poor, starving non-billionaires in the world?! Incredible!! When did this happen?!!”

Hypocrite: Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore took a fossil fuelwd flight to Davos to whine about “climate change”

— WilliamTeach (@WilliamTeach) January 24, 2013

RT @timothynoah1: Davos, exploring new frontiers in self-parody, frets about “increasing vulnerability of elites.”

— Rick Wilson (@TheRickWilson) January 23, 2013

Poor, little rich proggies! And in the cold, to boot!

I love how all the Davos interviews are outside, like nobody will believe it’s real unless they’re outside, in Switzerland, in winter.

— Katherine Miller (@katherinemiller) January 24, 2013

They are discussing big ideas, people! In the snow. Uphill.

Both ways.

Even Chuck Todd can’t spin the absurdity away.

Davos takes a beating on Twitter (perhaps for good reason). This has “jump the shark” written all over it.…

— Chuck Todd (@chucktodd) January 24, 2013

That’s right. Yankee Derek Jeter was in attendance. He’s a noted expert on “climate change,” you see.

Derek Jeter is at Davos. That’s the punchline.

— Aaron Nagler (@Aaron_Nagler) January 24, 2013

“Derek Jeter Talks Climate Change In Davos” – my mistake, totally serious conference worthy of exhaustive media coverage

— Patrick (@pattymo) January 24, 2013

So now even Davos is all about tweeting. When people start tweeting naked at Bohemian Grove, it will be time for all gatherings to end

— John Podhoretz (@jpodhoretz) January 24, 2013

Heh. Bless their hearts, they tried.

Draw attention to our mostly irrelevant conference by commissioning a gently mocking twitter campaign from an FP blogger #BigBoldDavosIdeas

— James Skylar Gerrond (@JimmySky) January 23, 2013

I accept my new role willingly. RT @dandrezner: Base G-20 membership exclusively on Klout scores. #bigbolddavosideas

— Hayes Brown (@HayesBrown) January 23, 2013

They just didn’t realize the hashtag was funny, because it’s true. A hashtag hijacking begins, pointing out the hilarity of Davos. Can you mock something that has become a self-parody? Yes, Twitter can!

Laughing out loud at the tweet stream from #bigbolddavosideas

More, please, Twitter! Maybe we can toughen up those “vulnerable elites.”
